Newly Adopted Dogs/ Rescue Dogs

Whatever their age, newly adopted dogs can take a while to adapt to your lifestyle.

They don’t know the rules of the house, what you expect of them, or how to communicate with you.  They’re often rescue dogs with an unknown background, a history that we’ll never know.  This can come with frustrating behavioral problems, some of which look a lot like puppy issues but in a bigger dog’s body:

  • Housetraining

  • Basic manners

  • Mouthing and chewing

  • Jumping up

  • Barking and lunging on leash (reactivity)

  • Fearfulness or anxiety

  • Prey drive

Together we can set realistic expectations for everyone, allow your new family member to decompress from their big life change, and teach them to behave in ways that work for everybody, taking into account that they come with their own learning history.  We’ll begin with enrichment and emotional stability for your dog so that you can build a life together.  Newly adopted dog sessions are generally full-length and happen at your home or out in the world, as needed.  And you can always contact me in between sessions if something arises!
